An initiative of the Furniture Industry Association of Bento Gonçalves (Sindmóveis), the Salão Design Award has revealed talent from Brazil and abroad since 1988, emphasizing the role of furniture design as a key driver of innovation and competitiveness. In its 26th edition, the most prestigious design award in Latin America received 450 entries. After the technical-functional evaluation phase, 103 finalists from Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay were announced (full list here). Now, professionals and students are gearing up for the second evaluation phase (aesthetic-creative), which will take place in person in Bento Gonçalves (RS), with a new panel of judges.
The director of the Salão Design Award, Priscila Manfroi, celebrates the award’s credibility and international reach over its 35-year history. “It is incredibly rewarding to see the prestige and trust that participants place in the Award. We are confident that those selected and honored in this 26th edition will gain visibility and new opportunities for partnerships, showcasing their talent in creating furniture that blends functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics through design,” she says.
WHAT’S NEXT
Popular Vote
All the projects approved in the first phase are now finalists and eligible for the Special Popular Vote Award – which invites public participation. Voting take place from September 24 to December 13, 2024, on the award’s website (salaodesign.com.br). In this edition, there will be two winners: one professional and one student.
Aesthetic-Creative Evaluation
On December 16 and 17, 2024, Amanda Ferber (architect), Fernando Mendes (architect and designer), Freddy Van Camp (designer), Regina Galvão (journalist) and Winnie Bastian (architect and journalist) will conduct the in-person evaluation of the products in Bento Gonçalves. Their assessment of the entries will be based on criteria such as concept, creativity, originality, ergonomics and adherence to the project presented in the first phase. The winners will be announced on January 6, 2025.
Final Results and Exhibition
The most eagerly anticipated moment will be on January 6, 2025, when the winners of the 26th edition of the Salão Design Award will be announced through the official channels of the award.
Movelsul Brasil, the leading furniture fair in Latin America, will host the exhibition of the winning and finalist projects from February 17 to 20, 2025, in Bento Gonçalves. The highlight of the vent will be the awards ceremony on February 19, when the designers will be recognized for their achievements.
